Tennis elbow: opening a bottle without it hurting
In chronic tendinopathy we can try to bring the pain down. What settles the underlying problem is changing the load and doing eccentric rehabilitation, and no treatment replaces that.

What lateral epicondylitis does to your day
Opening a bottle
Opening a bottle or turning a key hurts on the outside of the elbow.
The coffee cup
Lifting the coffee cup with that hand catches you out with a sharp pain.
Shaking hands
Shaking hands when you greet someone is uncomfortable.
Gripping things
It hurts more when you grip something than when you move the elbow.
What it can do and what it does not
Both lists carry the same weight because both matter equally to your decision.
What it can do. In documented cases
- It may reduce pain in chronic tendinopathy.
What it does not do. And we will not imply otherwise
- It does not replace load modification, which remains the base treatment.
- It does not replace eccentric rehabilitation.
- It does not correct the technique or the movement that caused the injury.

Questions about lateral epicondylitis
Written by the treating physician. The first one prevents the most wasted trips.
Anyone who has had it a short time and has not yet done directed eccentric rehabilitation. Most elbows improve with properly graded loading, and that is cheaper and more effective than coming to Guadalajara.
No. Most of our patients with this have never played tennis: it shows up with manual work, computers or tools.
The physician will give you the number of weeks for your case. Load modification is not complete rest: it is stopping the movement that hurts while the tendon gets stronger.
Some patients find it eases things while they work. It does not treat the tendinopathy, it only changes where the tension is applied.
That is assessed at the consultation. It depends on how many applications you need and on whether the sites allow it within the same stay.
Two to four days, with the assessment, the application and a check-up before your flight.
Send us your MRI and we will tell you if you are a candidate
The assessment is with the specialist who performs this protocol. If your case is outside what it can help, we tell you on the first call.
What we need from you
- An MRI or X-ray less than 12 months old
- A list of the medication you take today
- What you have already tried: physiotherapy, injections, surgery
