It is a disorder that affects the nervous system and the parts of the body controlled by the nerves, affecting movement and usually causing tremors.
Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative condition that has no cure through traditional medicine. However, regenerative medicine has a new hope: stem cell transplantation for Parkinson’s treatment.
At Stem Life Clinic, we have a Parkinson’s treatment protocol with mesenchymal stem cells to slow the progression of the disease, improve the quality of life and preserve the patient’s functionality for a longer period of time.
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the central nervous system in a chronic and progressive manner. Popularly known as Parkinson’s disease, it is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disease, after Alzheimer, and is part of the movement disorders.
This disease is characterized by the degeneration of neurons in the substantia nigra located in the middle part of the brain. This degeneration or neuronal loss causes a lack of dopamine in the organism, a neurotransmitter known to cause pleasure and relaxing sensations, which also transmits the information necessary to perform movements.
In the absence of dopamine, movement control is altered, causing the typical symptoms of Parkinson’s disease: tremors, muscle rigidity, slow movements, postural deterioration, balance failures, loss of automatic movements, speech changes, among others.
Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent cells, which can differentiate under appropriate conditions into neurons. In addition, they have a neuroprotective effect that helps produce trophic factors that contribute to neuronal recovery, cell survival, stimulation of regeneration and regulation of the immune system.
Conventional treatment for Parkinson’s focuses on improving symptoms but does not change the progressive nature of the disease. In contrast, stem cell treatment has been shown to be effective in slowing the progression of the disease as stem cells injected into the patient replace damaged cells and can help regenerate neuronal connections.
